Summer is over and fall is upon us and that means one thing: college football season is just around the corner. For some diehard fans that means that it is time to pack up your trusty car and head out on the road to follow your favorite team. Whether you are chasing the top-seated team or have your family traditional favorite, here are a few of our top picks to get you out on the road and tailgating in no time.
Thursday, Sept. 1: Southern Utah at Utah
If you are going to go all out to kick off the season, you might as well start on the West Coast. If you cannot get tickets to the game, there are plenty of sports bars with awesome grub where you can kick back with fellow fans to catch the game. Kick N’ It Sports Grill, Legends Sports Pub, and Fiddler’s Elbow all have tasty bar food, seasonal specials and some of Utah’s best microbrews on tap.
Friday, Sept. 2: Kansas State at Stanford
Since you are already on the coast, why not hop in your car and head over to Stanford for the Friday night game. It’s a mere 11 hours to get there, it’s a pretty, scenic ride, and perhaps the best part of all: you will be in California when you sit down to watch the game!
Sunday, Sept. 4: Notre Dame at Texas
If you are more a fan of southern teams, then kick the season off on a Sunday afternoon in Austin, Texas. If you are going to make this road trip, then save some time to enjoy the city as well. Known for its cool music scene, awesome food trucks, and all around mellow vibe, this city deserves your attention for more than just an afternoon game.
Monday, Sept. 5: Mississippi vs. Florida State
Perhaps you and your traveling companions are the type of fans who like to spend time in or near tourist hot spots. If that is the case, then head on out for the Monday night game in Orlando. You can hit a number of tourist’s joints before or after the game. Make note though, Florida State fans are very serious about their football, so expect to feel that energy when you get to the stadium.
These are just a few of the games that you have to look forward to in the opening weeks of the season. Grab your gear, paint your face and enjoy the game.
